Congkak or Congklak is a mancala game of Malay origin played in Malaysia, Singapore, Brunei, Southern Thailand, and some parts of Sumatra and Borneo.The word congkak is believed to originate from old Malay "congak", meaning "mental calculation" which is mainly practiced in this game. It is regarded that an efficient player who mentally calculates a few steps in advance will have an advantage in collecting points to win the game.

Congkak Board

It is believed that this traditional games are originated from Malacca Kingdom where it become popular and were spread to Southern Asian. In early days,it was thought that this game was for the King family and the residents.As the congkak board is shaped like a boat that was believed come from the legend of a fisherman unable to go to the sea during rainy season who lost his income during this time.To prevent boredom,he created this game which is similar to his boat.That's why mostly the congkak board shaped like a boat.

It is a traditional mathematical game. "Congkak" is a game for two players using a board which has several storehouses. The aim of the game is to gather as many shells into the storehouses on the player’s side. Normally, either cowrie shells or tamarind seeds are used.

Minting of the first sen series was halted in 1989 when the second series was introduced in circulation. The coins, however, remain in legal tender as of 2010, but have steadily declined in numbers since the 1990s and are now scarcely in circulation.

Reverse side features denomination and the year of mintage.

The Malaysian Houses of Parliament is a building complex where the Malaysian Parliament assembles. The structure is located at the Lake Gardens in Kuala Lumpur, right next to the Malaysian National Monument.
