The Spanish coat of arms displayed by Saint John's eagle, symbolizes the country, the old kingdoms of Spain, the Royal Crown, the Imperial Crown, the Constitutional monarchy, the Spanish national motto: Plus Ultra, and the Pillars of Hercules with the Spanish geographic situation.The motto plus ultra means 'further beyond' in Latin.

This  Commemorative coin was issued to celebrate wining the hosting rights of 1982 Soccer World Cup in Spain. This coin was demonetized on 28th Feb 2002.

Obverse of coin features the Portrait in left profile of Juan Carlos I with lettering 'JUAN CARLOS I REY DE ESPAÑA 1980'.
Note: There is a known error mule (KM# 811) which has 1975 not 1980 on the obverse.

Reverse of coin features the globe, a soccer ball and the facial value.

The 1982 FIFA World Cup, the 12th FIFA World Cup, was held in Spain from 13 June to 11 July. The tournament was won by Italy, after defeating West Germany 3–1 in the final. It was Italy's third World Cup win and first since 1938.
