The currency of State of Qatar is 'Riyal' and it breaks up into 100 Dirhams. It is often confused with the national currency of United Arab Emirates that is also known as Dirham but the difference lies in their values.

The coin is minted in the reign of Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani (born 1 January 1952) who is the ruling Emir of the State of Qatar since 1995.

On the obverse sides of all the coins is embossed the official logo of the Qatar Central Bank that shows a landscape showing two swords.Between the swords is a sailboat sailing over a water body and palm trees in the background. This logo is a part of coat of arms of Qatar. At the top, year of minting is written in Arabic ٢٠٠٨  (2008) - ١٤٢٩ (1429).
